Awards - What a waste!?

Yup, I totally agree with this title. Awards are a waste according to me. Waste of money, time and my energy when I could have been doing much better things in life. Hey its a democratic country (where slowly 'n' slowly everyones' freedom of speech is being taken away) so I get to say whatever I feel like. I saw the Filmmfare Awards tonight and I have just one word for them (actually 2), "Utter nonesense". My respect for these awards has gone down completely. It is so low, that to come up it will have to come up through the ground. I mean, movies are supposed to get the awards based on their cast? Based on their BO earnings? Based on their "commercialisation"? Or based on their true performance? Movies like A Wednesday and Aamir were or rather are, two of the finest movies I have seen in Bollywod and I am shocked, SHOCKED, that they did not win even one award. They deserved it. I agree Jodha Akbar deserved The Best Director, but I am sorry it did NOT deserve The Best Film or The Best Actor. I might be trashing some 3-4 years of hardwork in 3 hours but thats the harsh truth (I slept ff in the movie. I am all for the ol' Hindi and the acting and the sets but it was stretched). In business, shite happens! For what did it win the best film? For the controversies over King Akbar's wife? Over the dialogues? Seriously?
Anyway, I am sure you get my 'idea' of Filmfare Awards and what I think of 'em. I don't think I need to say anything further.
Last night I went partying. Ended up with puking outside a club and a baaaad hangover in the morning. Was fun.

Tell u a secret.Don't tell anyone.
The ONLY reason why the poll statistics and all the other kinds of stats are measured in percentages is so no one can argue or challange them. Simply cuz U can never prove stats r wrong.
The awards r measured in a similar manner too. It's brilliant actually - the way polls r measured. 2 edged sword.
Hey, pukey baby..get well quick u hear??
Advice - next time puke BEFORE the party..so u dont hv to puke after it. haha...

i totally totally agree... I've lost faith in the Oscars too but this time, i was a little heartened by the awards given out. Kate Winslet definitely deserved the best actress award for Revolutionary Road. the movie was very slow but she acted really well... and of course! Heath Ledger won best supporting actor for The Joker! He deserved it. Slumdog definitely didn't deserve all the awards it got.

yeah i agree with u dnyan. oscars were good the way they were presented. but i feel now awards r just abt making everyone happy and acknowledging everybody. i saw no reason for shah rukh khan to even get a nomination for rab ne..... awards this time really annoyed me. didnt gt to see the grammys

Thanks for an update on the Filmfare awards. I was recently on Shekhar Kapur’s blog and he wrote a post on the Oscars, interesting one. He said that all members have to watch all movies from that year. Very often that may mean over 100 movies and so people cant always see them. So, what do they do? Well. the see the main ones and then kinda go with the flow, i.e. the ones which are receiving more hype etc.

There apparently was a transcript of sorts given out to all filmmakers asking them to lessen their marketing activity as it tends to influence the judges. Well, what can you do? If people cannot watch the movie then they have to vote somehow. Shekhar said he doesn’t vote since he thinks its unfair to vote if he hasn’t seen ALL Movies. I don’t think everyone who votes thinks the same way. That explains many of the awards.

yeah thtas there. and its fair after all to not vote if u havent seen all of them. file like a wednesday and aamir were not marketed that much nor was much hype created for them .but they deserved them. commercial films will obv do well cuz the mass likes them.

Same is for the oscars. they were presented beautifully no doubt but slumdog did not deserve all the awards. music, background score, direction were brilliant. im sure there were btter movies for the best film award.
